ANCESTRAL ROUTE
BETWEEN GULLIES AND FOREST
- Distance: 9 kilometers
- Difficulty: 2.5 (Intermediate)
- Duration: 4 hours
A hiking route ideal for all lovers of beautiful landscapes and crystal-clear pools, featuring impressive rural scenery, village paths, gullies, and pre-Hispanic trails once traveled by our ancestors, who used this route as a commercial exchange path between various municipalities, mainly Concepción and San Vicente.
HISTORY AND CURIOSITIES
This beautiful walk begins at the border with the municipality of San Vicente Ferrer, taking the road through the San Pedro Alto village, passing by the school in Las Frías and Palmichal villages — areas of the municipality that are little explored but boast wonderful landscapes and forests. It is also a route for bird lovers, as several species inhabit the area.
Bird Species Found on the Route
Common Squirrel Cuckoo
A bright cinnamon-red cuckoo with a long tail, widely distributed in tropical lowlands and locally on mountain slopes. There are no similar species in Mexico and Central America. It can be found in a variety of wooded habitats and forest edges. It usually feeds stealthily in the mid and upper strata of trees, where it can be surprisingly difficult to see. Occasionally, it may swoop across paths, causing surprise.
